The Mill House a Grade II listed property, the Millers home in times gone by and part of a working mill. Lovingly restored, retaining many original features with modern comforts from a quality refurbishment. The Mill House in the delightful Warwickshire village of Great Alne enjoys a tranquil setting with its own share of the mill race, including fishing rights.Vendor CommentThis very attractive and characterful home sits in a gloriously rural location on the outskirts of the village of Great Alne. "When we bought The Mill House just over ten years ago it was in a sorry state," says Simon, "but it was such a wonderfully unique property that we managed to see past its dilapidated condition, and we were able to envisage what a beautiful home it had the potential to become." "We loved it from the minute we walked through the door," adds Simone, "and it's in such a stunning location, surrounded by nothing but open fields. It's an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place to live.""The house was in such a bad state that we had to completely gut it and start again," says Simon. "At one point during the renovation there were just four walls standing, but it did mean the we were able to change the configuration of the layout ever so slightly to make it much more conducive to modern living." "I would say that the heart of the home changes depending on the time of year," says Simone. "In winter we tend to sit in the snug which has a log burner to keep the space cosy and warm, and during the summer it's definitely the sitting room, which has huge windows that let in lots of light. It's also lovely because it's in a part of the house that is situated over the millrace, so we have a more formal dining table at which we can sit and eat and at the same time have a lovely view of the water. We also get the occasional swan tapping on the window, waiting to be fed, something that we'll really miss."The Mill House sits in just under an acre of lovely grounds that have been designed to have a very natural feel. "The garden is just lovely," says Simone, "and I would describe it as a woodland garden. When we arrived it was just a large lawn with lots of weeds, and we have since added two large patio areas and planted the rest to attract the abundance of wildlife."This lovely property is surrounded by mile upon mile of open countryside, and yet one is afforded easy access into, among other places, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Alcester and Warwick. It is also a location that benefits from excellent transport links; in short one is able to experience the very best of both worlds."Even though this house was in a dire state when we first found it," says Simone, "we both walked in and knew that it was for us, and that is something that I would love to feel again."Simon and Simone* These comments are the personal views of the current owners and are included as an insight into life at the property.
